Yup, I agree! These are really good gun cloths that really get in those slim spaces to get the job done. I'm really happy with them.

And you can't beat that nice shine!

I just bought a new Socom 16 last weekend. The tag attached to the trigger guard said it was made 2-2-10. So I guess it is straight from the assembly line. The gun store only had it on the rack for a few days. I got it, an additional 20 round mag made by Springfield Arms, a bore snake and with sales tax on the high side of 6 percent, I made it out the door less than 2K. I think I did OK. I have three "black" guns with two chambered in 7.62 x 51mm. I really like them all but I think this will be my new favorite even though it is not an AR variant. This baby just feels right. No cheap parts or rattles here. I can't wait to break in the barrel according to military procedures and then seeing how tight a group it will give at 300 yards. I'll let all know when I get to that point. Keep it in the 10 ring. :)

I just paid $1499 for a fantastic condition 1987 pre ban Standard M1A in Marines style camo, chambered for 7.62 with flash supressor. Came with M2 bipod, camo sling, camo SA voodoo style drag bag, 3 twenty round mags and 1 five round mag. Given the price vs 23 years old, the desirability for the rifles on the market, I'd say your price is in the ball park. Good luck!

I recently purchased a preban SA M1A 22" 1/11 twist Standard from a gunshop off consignment. It is in fabulous condition. It is decked out in Marines style camo paint, camo sling; original M2 bipod, camo Voodoo style drag bag with 5 mag pouches and extra compartments; three 20 round mags and one 5 round mag. It has a flash suppressor and bayonet lug. It is chamber for 7.52. SA tells me it was manufactured in 10/87. Has a Winchester barrel and TRW bolt.

I sent it to SA for them to glass bed it, guage the head space...a complete going over with a trigger job as well. They sent me a new owners manual, Army TM manual, a six page artical on "The Mysterious Slam-Fire" and a two page article on aiming the M1A. As far as I'm concerned, SA is second to none in customer service!

I live in CT, the shop owner said I didn't need to change the suppressor to a brake and I needed nothing else per post ban laws in CT. Is that true? He said this rifle, being a SA did not require any special tax thing. I'm still reading the laws.

Can you tell me any history of this paticular rifle in 1987. Re; why they installed a Winchester barrel, TRW bolt, who they sub contracted with, etc...there was an '87 recall on TRW bolts, they will look into that.

I learned mant gun manufacturers used clock manufacturers for some of their parts...maybe springs, etc.

Is there a web link II can read more on this one?

Thank youu.

Hey Chris,

Thanks for your input. I'm currently working on restructuring the website and that would include content.

Do you currently own a M1A?

I just found this website, and what a disappointment. This article doesn't have anything to do with the M1a as it relates to choosing a scope. There are specific issues, like the scout or SOCOM models may require scout-type scopes with much longer eye relief. Or what about the challenge of mounting a scope (Stock M1A's don't come with scope mounts), or the cheek weld issue wehn usng a standard scope with the factory stock? Is this the kind of generic lame info I can expect to xontinue to receive if I hang around here?

Have a new Springfield M1A. Have the Springfield armory 3rd generation scope mount. What size Leupold scope rings are needed for the Leupold Mark 4 series with either the 40 or 50mm objective lens. I would like to get the 50mm objective but might have to get the 40mm objective to save a little cash.

Thanks for the info. However, I'm not sure that the gen-3 unit will work on my Socom II as it came with the short version "rail-cluster" and is attached at the rear using the same holes as the gen-3 would use. I may have to figure-out some other way to mount a scope in a cantilevered configuration. Springfield Armory said that for ~$500 I could send the rifle back to them and they would install the "full-length" cluster rail which would solve all problems with mounting a scope. I'm just not sure I can afford that after having spent nearly $2100 for the rifle itself. Dang!

Thanks again.
