Hi all. I am a new M1A owner. Been collecting milsurp for 40 years and this is my first venture into newer rifles, and most likely my last. Love my Springfield M1A loaded model. Took her to the range today and was amazed at the accuracy using South African ball .308.

Look forward to learning a lot here with you vets.

Okay, maybe not that old, but the last time I spent much time with an M14 was back in the 60's. Remember the 60's? Well, that's okay. Some of it's kind of hazy to me too.

Anyway, I have a Socom and am now acquiring a Super Match. Want to re-learn the rifle and see if I can figure out how to put rounds downrange with some degree of accuracy. I'll be in the steep part of the learning curve for a while and am looking forward to whatever you folks are willing to share with me.

My first task will be to settle the ammo question. I'm thinking that consistancy will be important, so I'd like to get some good recommendations from the start. Brand, bullet weight, and so on.

So, thanks in advance. This is gonna be fun!

Hi,

My name's Nick, and I'm from Baltimore MD. I'm a Marine Corps reservist and used the money I had saved up from my recent deployment to Iraq to buy myself an M1A Scout and a Colt AR-15, in recent months I've mounted a lot of stuff onto both rifles but my pride and joy remains my M1A.

My M1A has a SAGE EBR Chassis, LaRue Tactical scope mounts, a Redfield Revolution 4-12x40mm scope, and a Harris bi-pod. It's a beast, although I sometimes wish I kept the original synthetic stock on it, I like how it's something different than what you normally see around at the local ranges. My AR-15 on the other hand just has normal cosmetic accessories and the only serious thing I changed out was the collapsible stock for a Magpul UBR. In the future I'd love to pick up quite a few more rifles, but I doubt I'll be customizing them too much or else my wallet my start crying.

Wild Bill Here from Wild Bill's Guns in Oregon....For those that know us I am Bill Jr. I have been an M14 fan since I was a Marine in the 80's. Yes our primary rifle was the M16 but if you were lucky some units still had a few M14's. I still remember shooting the full auto version durring training at 29 palms. I currently have a few, but favorite is My custom SOCOM 16.

Pics of my SOCOM - I have since added a Trijicon Accupoint 1-4 on a Warne Mount with a burris speed dot on the side.

Hi,

This is Cooleemee Edd, writing from the Heart of Carolina. I am in the midst of doing a trade for an M1A. I have wanted one ever since I knew they were being made. I trained on an M-14, then carried one in Vietnam in 1969-1970. At the time, I thought that the M-16 (which I trained/qualified with in one day about a week before being shipped to the war zone) felt like a toy (Mattel, to be exact). I learned that this was not true, of course, but very quickly turned in the M-16 for a '14. I have made some long shots with the M-14 with iron sights, and expect to do some real wonders with a scope in the M1A. The one I am trading for is all tricked out and ready to go.

I reload my own cartridges and feel that this is the way to go. It is simply too expensive to purchase and shoot good ammo out of the box.

I'm looking forward to some stimulating posts.

First, hello to everyone on the forum. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan, but will cycle back to the states shortly. I call NM home. I currently do not own a M1A rifle, but I am going to get one (I really like the Scout version) upon my return to the USA. I found the forum while researching the M1A, and thought that the knowledge found here would prove an invaluable resource to a M1A novice like me. I own several military-style firearms, and thought it was time to move up on firepower. I am looking forward to learning as much as I possibly can from everyone here. Like I said, I am a firearm lover, but an M1A novice. Hello again to every one here!

Total newb here. I spent 10 years in the USMC but that was 20 years ago. My reason for being here is to do my research for my next rifle purchase. I have narrowed my choices to a DSA FAL carbine or a Springfield Socom/Socom II. Any help or advice in my quest will be much appreciated. I would really like to get this right and only cry once.

Hello everyone I am from New Jersey and look forward to talking and getting to know everyone. I can't express how happy I was when shooting my M1A for the first time. My first time out with it was also my first time shooting any rifle at 300 yards and could not believe I was hitting the target with the iron sites. Forgive me if I ask to many questions but I really want to know everything I can about this rifle.

I attended a Countersniper course when I was on the SWAT team as a sniper for police department. This was many years ago and at the time we were using a Steyr SSG in .308. Another team that was at the training had an M1A national match that they were using. At the time I did not pay much attention as I was smitten with the SSG. Over the years I have thought much about the M1A but just got in the position to purchase one. Joined the forum to learn as much as I could before buying one. I have already learned quite a bit just on the few pieces I read from the website.

I'm glad I found this site. Hello to everyone. I hope soon to be in the market for a Scout so this place should be a good spot for advice and recommendations from all you pros.

I carried the M14 in the Marines -loved it- and thought nothing of the weight. Now being 58 instead of 19yrs, that dude sure seems heavy.

But really like that 7.62 and not a big fan of the 5.56....although I do like my Ruger mini 14. I think I want a Scout for the caliber and somewhat compactness - seems like a good match/compromise.
