Here are some pictures of my M1A Scout. I've put 100 rounds through it so far and absolutely love this rifle. My friends with AR-15's are jealous.
Sighting it in for the first time at 100 yards. 6 clicks up and 2 clicks right, hitting bulleye's.

Springfield #5 ballistic rifle bag. Probably could have bought this somewhere else cheaper. It's a nice bag, well padded, good construction. I wonder who manufacture's this for them?

I made this cleaning stand out of some scrap oak after reading that it is important to clean the rifle upside down, barrel pointed downards. Why buy what you can make.

My next mods
- Harris 1A2 Bipod 6"-9"
- Leupold Scout Scope
- MORE AMMO!!!!!

Nice pictures.
Where did you get that bag? It would be good for my scout too.
I would also like to get one for my newsletter readers and give it away as a prize.
Thanks,
Jerry

I bought the bag from Springfield $75, look in their online store under M1A rifles. I'm pretty sure you can get a very similiar bag from Midway for less – http://www.midwayusa.com/viewP…..2362613316
Now that I have the pattern it wouldn't be too hard to make some stands, $25 + shipping sound fair?

@Tapatio
Sure $25 is fine, I'll even do a review on it and put it on the home page for you
Let me know how you want to accept payment.

OK tapatio, Educate an old gringo: what is a "tapatio"? (besides being the name of my most favoriite real mexican restraunt) Love your Scout. Now you need a "Scout scope". Jeff Cooper thought the M1A with Scout Scope was the best all-round international go-to rifle. Accurate, powerful, reliable, fast to reload, good magazine capacity, and find ammo nearly everywhere. I hope I don't regret getting the full size M1A but I trained with the M14 50 years ago so it just feels right.

No hidden meaning, just my favorite hot sauce that I tend to put on everything.
I am planning to put a 2.5X28 Leupold Scout or 2.75X20 Burris Scout on this firearm. While I've read some people use EER pistol scopes, I understand they work best when left at the lowest magnification. If anybody on this forum has experience with scout scopes I'd like to hear about it. I don't want to turn this rifle into something it is not. Other than plinking I am planning to do some hog and deer hunting.
I'm also considering putting a Burris Fastfire II Red Dot. I believe they work best with a ULTIMAK rail since you can conwitness the front sights. 3 problems I have with that setup is added weight, no magnification and $$$.

Tapatio,
I have sereral rifles with scout scopes. They are different than pistol scopes as the eye relief is shorter. My experience is they too work best at low maginfication (probably not more than 2.5X) as it becomes increasingly difficult to find the light exit cone and then target at anything higher. I have both Burris and Loupold "scout" scopes, both 1.5X fixed and 1.5-5X variable. Target acquisition should be almost instantanious when you bring the rifle to your shoulder otherwise the "Scout-scope" advantage is lost.

Yeah, M1A's tend to do that to AR-15 users!!
The local cops who are on the County ERT team were re qualifying at our sportsmans club range one time. and they were over at the and of the benches with their M-4's………POP,POP,POP……..
I pulled my M1A loaded model out already had my targets up and loaded my mag, chambered it and………BOOM,BOOM,BOOM………
The cops promptly stopped doing what they were doing and looked at me like "What in god's name was that?" then rushed over to ogle and ask if they could try it.
I let them, the weapons guy for the department just said "Damn, Brickley!!! Glad you aren't a trouble maker!!!"(He knew me from high school) Don't know if they ever got a M1A's of their own but they were impressed nonetheless.

yeah some guys at my range had the same reaction when i was shooting my buddys socom 16 and they were over shooting their ar and ak's. they saw me pull it out of the case and pop a mag in. you have to admit it looks pretty intimidating with a 30rnd mag in something that short. the guys came over while i was shooting kneeling but stepped a couple paces back due to the muzzle blast. i was drilling a 4" steel plate at 100 with the eo tech. my buddy sean let them run a mag each thru it and they were hooked and stood there asking him all kind of questions while i continued banging away

First of, that's quite the stand you made. I'm unfortunately not very talented when it comes to wood working so I can only admire such things. As for your range tale, a similar thing happened when I was with one of my buddies who's a Scout owner as well, except it wasn't cops but some of the regulars who were impressed as we were in another town visiting a friend. It seems that no matter where you go it's always in the spotlight.

Have any of you removed the upper handguard picatinny rail from your scout? I can never imagine using that rail for anything. Where can I get a M-14 type upper handguard, other than Springfield I mean. I have one of the Millet 1-4 red dot sights on my rifle but the eye relief margin is so small I find it less than satisfactory except on 1 power. I think I am going to try the Nikon 3x9, doesn't cost an arm and a leg so it would be a cheaper experiment.

I'd keep the front rail if I were you. Here's a picture of my weapon with a Burris 2.75 Scout Scope. I'm very happy with this setup for 0-250 yards.

That's a good lookin' setup dude. I've been debating what to mount on my scout. That could be a viable option.
Love your hot sauce by the way. It's delicious. Just like bacon, it makes everything better.
